CoffeeDNS - CloudDNS comes to Javabean Hosting!

Over the past several months at Javabean Hosting we've been working hard to innovate and improve our products and services for our customers. In January, we started offering 90 days of backupsand today we'd like to announce the next big thing in RapidWeaver Hosting, CoffeeDNS.

What is CoffeeDNS?

CoffeeDNS is our name for our new globally distributed, fault tolerant, and fast DNS system at Javabean Hosting. CoffeeDNS is based on a common industry routing practice called AnyCast. AnyCast is just another method of bringing speed and reliability to your sites at Javabean.

What do you have to do?

Nothing. That's right, absolutely nothing. If your domain's name servers are set to ns1.javabeanhosting.com and ns2.javabeanhosting.com you will beautomaticallyupgraded to CoffeeDNS.

When will we be upgraded?

The upgrade schedule will be as follows:

  • February 8, 2013
    • ns2 will be upgraded to CoffeeDNS
  • February 15, 2013
    • ns2 will be retired
    • ns1 will be upgraded to CoffeeDNS
  • February 22, 2013
    • ns1 will be retired

Wikipedia provides a great explanation on the subject, but in simplistic terms, it is a method of translating your domain name (e.g., example.com) to an IP address (e.g., 127.0.0.1) using the topographically closest server to your visitors. This results in:

  • Reliability
    • Due to the distributed nature of an AnyCast network, failover is performed automatically and transparently to the user.
  • Speed
    • The speed in which DNS lookups are performed are naturally decreased due to the use of the closest server.
  • Mitigates DDoS
    • AnyCast DNS also naturally mitigates denial of service attacks since routing is automatically load balanced during traffic spikes.
